Robert Lawrence Designs (RLD) is pleased to welcome Dallas-based artists Ziesook You and Ty Bishop to the showroom for the fall season with an exhibition of new work.
Since 2016, Ziesook You has been working on the “Scent of Broq-pa” project, which according to her, expresses happiness through the coexistence of humans and nature, with photographs of people from various walks of life being overlayed with hundreds of flowers. Broq-pa is the name of a small village in Nepal. Everyday the women in Broq-pa – living at the end of the Silk Road – work to grow flowers in their gardens. Because they live surrounded by mountains of stone, they call flowers, love. Their love is the power for them to survive in this sterile environment. The artist’s work starts from sharing their attitude toward life and the people around her. Boiled down, the artist is asking, “Can we be happy with flowers?” This series has been exhibited in Korea, Hong Kong, and the United States.
Ty Bishop is an abstract oil painter whose recent works focus on the idea of wholeness in a world seemingly disintegrated. According to the artist, the pursuit of this wholeness is summed up in the question, “how do the ephemeral and eternal relate?” Bishop’s gestural process to create these paintings begins by combining methods related to improv jazz music with his memories and images from excursions into nature. Since each work is informed by a specific place and memory, his own intuitive emotional responses to the painting process come together in a meaningful and harmonious way – combing the eternal aspects of nature and ephemeral movements of his body. Bishop’s newest work relies on color, movement, and texture to promote these ideas.
A public reception and informal artist talk will be hosted at the Robert Lawrence Designs Showroom on Dragon Street on Thursday, September 19th from 5 – 8 PM with the artist talks beginning at 6:30 PM. Drinks and light bites will be provided.
