Peter Drake, Escape
Peter Drake, an accomplished representational painter, is presenting his first solo-exhibition in Texas. Drake, a New York City resident, is currently the Provost at the New York Academy of Art, previously he taught at Parsons, New School of Design, SVA, and MICA. His work is in numerous private corporate and public collections such as the Whitney Museum of Art, Phoenix Museum of Art, LA County Museum, MOCA LA & Microsoft Corporation, among others.
His nostalgic realism paintings deal with the three subject matters: Suburban America of the 50’s & 60’s, landscapes, and vintage toys. In his painting titled “Escape”, these topics are a metaphor for a missed idealization.
Ed Hall, Listen to the Lion
Ed Hall is a Dallas artist creating abstract minimalist paintings. Hall grew up in Detroit in the 1960’s and earned his BFA at Kendall College, Grand Rapids, Michigan. Hall worked as an illustrator for Hallmark Cards in Kansas City for almost 15 years, leaving Hallmark to explore his desire to paint.
Hall describes his compositions as abstracted landscapes. Through layering, scraping, mark making, and exposing underlying color fields Hall creates depth, both physically and visually in his paintings. The tension between light and dark, rough and smooth, transparent and opaque, make his work intriguing yet mysterious. In recent paintings Hall focuses more on these features by reducing pictorial elements. This trend finds a culmination in his piece “Listen to the Lion”. By finding the confidence and clarity to create a minimalistic body of work Hall listens to his inner “lion”.
Anders Moseholm, Blindscapes
Denmark based; Anders Moseholm is having his third solo-exhibition at Craighead Green Gallery. Since his first exhibition in Dallas in 2018 his impressionistic, large-scale paintings of cityscapes and renaissance architecture have been widely appreciated and collected. His work is featured in various collections throughout the United States and Europe, such as the Danish parliament, the Danish & Swedish Art Foundation, and the Carlsberg Foundation. His volatile painting style allows Moseholm to challenge the viewers perception. Through his paintings, he raises important questions about human perception, such as time or memory. In his new exhibition: “Blindscapes”, Moseholm is examining similarities and differences between human made architecture and naturally occurring architecture.
