The San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles is pleased to announce the Second Artist Member’s Exhibition in the museum’s Porcella Gallery. Creatives who are current Artist Members may apply to exhibit one work in the exhibition Form and Function: Fiber Arts for the 21st Century. http://sjquiltmuseumentry.org/
In this exhibit, SJMQT seeks works in both traditional and new media that emphasize art over craft with bold use of artistic elements—line, space, shape, form, texture, and color to tell an individual story. The work should focus on fiber as media through unique or novel approaches in technique, material, or subject matter. Experiment with textile manipulation, color, texture and/or diversity of materials to include a compelling mix of traditional and non-traditional works created from natural or synthetic fibers. This is an opportunity to showcase your skills and the unique qualities of thread and textiles, and to communicate meaning through mark-making and structure. Stitch, surface, construction, joinery, embellishment—fiber artists use these methods and others to bridge craft and design, invoke new artistic concepts, and alter or refresh views of fiber. Each of our Members brings a personal vision and sensibility to his or her cloth. We want to celebrate this diversity and this exhibition is intended to promote an appreciation of fiber arts in the broader community. Deadline to Apply: Thursday, September 12, 2019.
