For the 17th year, IAA has hosted a competition featuring animal art. Formerly a national show, this year we returned to a regional scope, putting the emphasis on DFW area artists.
Any animal species was accepted as subject matter for works, both wildlife and domestic, including pets. This year creatures from fantasy, mythology and Cryptozoology were also eligible. Also new for 2018, we have a special challenge category of FROGS & TOADS. 45 artists of all ages entered over 100 pieces of artwork.
The show opened Sunday, August 26th and runs until Sept. 28th at the Jaycee Park Center for the Arts. Gallery hours are Sun., Wed., Thurs. & Fri., from 1 to 4 p.m. and Tues. from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Awards Reception was held on Sunday afternoon, September 9. A panel of judges selected the award winners: Brett Dyer, Michael Whiteside and Terry Cockerham. For a copy of the show catalog click here: 2018 IAA Animal Art Awards Show brochure.

Credit goes to those who worked hard on this exhibit: Exhibit Chair was John Hunter with catalog also by John Hunter. Intake was done by the Exhibits committee volunteers. Food for the reception was handled by Alicia Duncan, and reception photographers were Steve Miller and Patsy Davila.
During October 6 – December 31, selected pieces from this exhibit will be on display at the Irving Arts Center (3333 N. MacArthur, Irving) for the 7th Annual IAA Animal Art Traveling Exhibit until November 26.
