FIRST THURSDAY EVENT FOR SEPTEMBER
SELF PORTRAIT INVITATIONAL SHOW
Reception on Thursday, September 6th from 5-8pm
Self portraits have likely been made for as long as humans have created art, but is wasn’t until the Early Renaissance in the mid-15th century that artists fully embraced depicting themselves as the main subject. Building on this long tradition of artist self-portraits, we have invited several gallery artists to create their own for display in our gallery. We wanted to find out how our artists view themselves.
Other than size, 8×10 or 9×12, we have imposed no limits. Expect anything from serious to humorous and in a wide range of styles. We’d like you to vote on your favorite piece over the course of the show. Come to the opening reception and meet many of the artists in person. Will their self-portrait reflect what you see on the outside or reveal some deeper truth? There will definitely be some surprises. We will also have online voting as an option in case you can’t make it to the gallery during September. The Self Portrait Invitational Show runs the entire month.

Frida Kahlo, Paul Gauguin, Gustave Courbet, Leonardo da Vinci
